Students are in Peru!

Hello WHS family and friends!

We just spoke with the instructors on the WHS program in Peru and all of the students have safely arrived in Cusco, Peru. They are resting on the 2.5 hour drive to Ollantaytambo where they will enjoy a Peruvian lunch and rest for the afternoon. They are all happy and healthy...and a little tired. They will start updating the blog this evening. Please don't hesitate to call the office with any questions - 303.679.3412.

Great to get the good news of students arriving well... Glad they are a little tired; that will help them sleep well and deal with jet-lag sooner :-) Can't wait to hear of all the fun... Ashwani Bhasin

We are at our inn where we will stay next two nights. Beautiful weather, awesome mountains, superb start to trip. More later.

Sun is down, and indeed it is cold. We are having trouble posting to the blog. Did WLS post to say we had arrived?  Dinner is in about 20 minutes.

The flight to Cusco provided incredible mountain views. Julian could not believe the immensity of them. Bus ride after was also gorgeous. We stopped at an archeological site called Moray. Hike there left us winded. Some a little lightheaded to do it.

Then into town of Urubamba for a lovely lunch. We had a long table under a tent in a sort of compound. Buffet. I had chicken soup, alpaca, yummy potatoes, quinoa. Delicious. Coca tea not delicious but helpful with altitude adjustment.

Then on to Ollantaytambo. The inn is nice, and we had a good orientation meeting.

Everybody is in good spirits and good shape despite sleep deprivation. Tomorrow, we go river rafting.

WOW!!! Were they Andes mountains? If so, that would be the longest mountain range above sea. Highest outside Asia. And my personal favorite, they have the steepest incline (as i am sure kids will experience during the hike :-)). Take lots of pictures - including flowers (ihope it is season). Can't wait to hear more and see some pics also when your time permits.

Email here is very sketchy. If this gets thru (I'm writing at 4 pm edt), maybe you can post that we had a great time on the river. Water was cold, but wet suits served us well. Everyone remains healthy and happy. Off exploring the town now.
